How I work
I offer talking therapy over video-link, the phone or text. This means that you can access me from anywhere in the world. From your front room to your hotel room (or anywhere else!). All you need is Wifi or phone signal.
I offer therapy that fits your life. Your hours. This means you can tailor the frequency and length of sessions, and how long we work together.
On average, sessions are 50 minutes long. I usually work with people on a weekly basis at first, switching to fortnightly sessions at a later stage. I work with some people over shorter periods (a single session - six weeks) and longer term. It all depends on your concerns and goals.
I believe therapy should be non-judgemental. A space where you can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable. A space where you know you will be heard and understood.
I believe therapy should be collaborative. I am a Doctor - but you are the expert of you. Together we can understand and overcome. I am here to listen to you. I will then offer advice, support and training in any of the skills you need to live your best life.
I am skilled in many psychological models, including CBT, CFT, ACT, Mindfulness and Narrative Therapy. This means that I can mix the appropriate ideas and tools together to suit you.
What to expect
In the first session I will ask you what has brought you to therapy. What your goals are. Your obstacles and your strengths. At the end of this session I will help you understand your situation, what is causing it and what is maintaining it. We will then make a plan on how you can overcome your difficulties and meet your goals.
In all following sessions, we will talk about your week. We will check in on your progress and practice the skills you need to move forward to the next step. I believe therapy should be practical. It should lead to change. A change that sustains.
If you have any questions at any time, you can ask. If you have concerns about progress or feel you want to change the direction of the work, we can also talk freely about this. This is your time. Your space.
Is online therapy effective?
Online therapy is the future. The research on its efficacy is growing fast.
Some people are worried that online therapy will make them feel distant from the therapist. Or that they will be distracted by their own face in the video link. These concerns resonated with me before I started working online. They passed quickly once I tried it for myself. Genuine connection can be created online, as well as in person.
I am confident I will get you the results you're after because online therapy is easy to fit into your busy lifestyle and therefore easier to commit to. Regular therapy is part of the key to seeing results.
The free consultation is a good space to see how online therapy feels for you.
